The Versatile Blogger Award

Versatile Blogger Award

I am slowly but surely making my way through these tags. I am so sorry it has taken me so long to get round to doing these. I’d like to give a HUGE thank you to Jesse @ Books at Dawn, Reg @ She Latitude, Yasaman @ Following Muses and Ashers @ Hey AshersIf you haven’t checked out their blogs I urge you to do so cause they are all so wonderful.

The Rules

  1. Show the award on your blog.
  2. Thank the person who has nominated you.
  3. Share 7 different facts about yourself.
  4. Nominate a few blogs of your choice.
  5. Link your nominees to let them know of your choice.

1. I am the worst person to watch Lord of the Rings with. The Lord of the Rings franchise is my absolute favourite. The films are my ultimate go-to on stressful days or if I’m just feeling an adventure. However, I have watched the films so many times I now find myself quoting the films every time I watch them. I know, it’s bad but I have no shame in my dedication haha.

2. I’m not much of a crier when I watch films/read books but I’ve noticed that I am more likely to cry when an animal dies rather when a  human dies. There’s just something so heartbreaking about losing your four legged friend. I mean just try and watch Marley and Me without crying at the end.

3. I didn’t read much as a child. When I was younger I associated reading with school and I hated being told what I could/couldn’t read so my rebellion was to simply not read.

4. I’m in a state of limbo right now. Being thrown into the real world has not been the most fun for me – it’s probably not meant to be fun anyway. 😛 After my university graduation the one question I constantly get from everyone is; What are you going to do now? My answer is, float. I haven’t the slightest clue what I want to do career wise and so right now I am simply settling for whatever job comes my way. I feel like there’s too much pressure on young people these days to have their entire lives mapped out and it is frustrating. So I am floating right now and I will find the right path when the time is right.

5. My current TV obsession is The Walking Dead. I have slowly been catching up on the show and I am addicted. Sadly I’ve already been spoiled about the season 6 cliffhanger so all I can say is that Glenn and Daryl have to stay within my protective bubble so no harm can come to them.

6. I say my favoruite season is autumn but the truth is I like all the seasons, especially when the associated weather lines up with each season. The fact that we had snow yesterday was exciting but frustrating because I’ve moved on from the Winter weather for now.

7. My height is 5′ 7.

I thought it’d be appropriate to finish with something short and sweet.

  1. Eep, will you hate me if I admit that I haven’t watched ANY of the LOTR films? I’ve always been meaning to but I just never got into the mood, haha. And the thought of marathoning them intimidates me because they’re all so long and I hear it’ll take like… 12 hours at least. D:

BUT Marley and Me made me cry too. 😛

On #4 – Everyone asked me the EXACT SAME QUESTION when I graduated, and every time I had to answer I’d get a bit stressed out because like you, I had no idea. I still don’t really know what I want to do with my life – I’ve got ideas, but nothing concrete, and the thought of really going for something and failing scares the hell out of me. I agree that there’s so much pressure on young people to know what they want SO YOUNG IN LIFE – like how the hell am I supposed to know what I want to be doing in 20 years? I don’t even know what I want to eat for dinner! D:

    1. I think a lot of people tend to be intimidated by the length of the films but honestly once you get past the initial set up and introduction the action kicks in. Plus the score and scenery is absolutely stunning. It’s definitely worth the shot.

I only ever watched Marley and Me once and I refuse to watch it again.

That is EXACTLY how I feel. The fact that people expect us to know every last detail of our futures is insane. It’s like they seem to forget the fact that after spending the majority of our lives in school we need time to actually adjust to the “real world” and for some it’s about discovering yourself a bit more before settling down in a job and do the same thing every day for the years to come. I try to take things one step at a time. If I can get through the day unscathed and not be interrogated about my future I will call it a success.

      1. That’s good to know! I’ll probably try to get on at least one this weekend… suddenly I’m feeling like it. 😛

YES, THANK YOU. It’s honestly already a bit stressful trying to figure it out for yourself; when you have to answer to so many people it just adds on! Although that could be a lack of coping thing – I’m very easily influenced by these things so I admittedly sometimes take things more personally than I should’ve (i.e. taking small talk questions as pressure). :/

        1. I literally just finished watching the third film and no matter how many times I watch it, I still get chills.

I basically just try to take one day at a time but it’s definitely hard to ignore all the pressure and I do feel like I sometimes take things a bit more personally or I overthink the comment and it’s implications too much. Ugh, adulting is hard:- I quit.

  2. I never, ever cry while I’m reading or watching a movie. It kind of sucks because I definitely feel like crying, but I hate crying at the same time. The only book that brought tears to my eyes was Entwined by Heather Dixon. I think I was probably the only one though because there was just a certain scene that hit a personal note.

#4 is so accurate! I’m not even finished university yet and I’m already getting questions about what I want to do with my life. I definitely agree that there’s waaay too much pressure on our generation to have everything sorted out as soon as we graduate. I kind of know what I’m going to do after uni (involves more school unfortunately), but no one in my family thinks I can do it, which is just great! My mom told me the other day that I should just take the year off and work and pay off student loans, which would be a great idea except she’s only saying that so that I don’t move out. It’s weird how everyone expects me to have a plan, yet when I do have one, they stop me from pursuing it. Sorry for the rant!

    1. I haven’t heard about Entwined but I’ll be sure to add it to the never ending to be read pile haha. I feel like I’ve got to be really invested in the story/character for it to provoke an emotional reaction. With films I find that the music tends to make me emotional.

Honestly if it wasn’t for the fact that I had people asking me about my future every day I would probably be a bit more calm and wouldn’t feel as bad as I do for not having a plan. It’s like they forget about how much of an adjustment it is when you finish your academic career. I am trying to consider all possibilities and gain some more life experience so I can have an idea of what I want to do and people seem to forget that it takes time. On top of that even finding a job is hard enough nowadays. You are the only person that can decide what you want t do with your life because if we live by the rules and expectations of those around us we’re going to have regrets. You know your limits and capability better than anyone and no one should tell you otherwise. Feel free to rant away. I completely understand that frustration and I hope everything works out the way you want it to. 😀

      1. Thank you! I’m really struggling with trying to do what I want versus doing what everyone else wants. I’ve spent my whole life just listening to my parents and doing exactly what they said, but I’m slowly realizing that I’m going to end up regretting a lot of things. I already regret so many things that I wish I could have done, or different decisions that I could have made. The pressure is what makes everything so difficult and also trying to keep everyone happy. I feel so guilty when my parents are disappointed or unhappy with me and that stops me from doing a lot of things that I know I would enjoy or would just be good life experiences! Having money would help too lol 😂 I’m struggling with just trying to find a summer job, let along finding a job related to my degree!

        1. I definitely understand your struggles cause I feel the same way, especially with wanting to keep everyone happy and I feel like that I take into account my family’s wishes more than I do my own, which I’m slowly learning not to do. I try to find a balance or a compromise but at the end of the day you have to put yourself first.

  3. Thank you so much for the nomination Lois! I really enjoyed getting to know more about you 🙂

I totally agree with you on #2… I hardly EVER cry while reading or watching films but the deaths of animals always seem to leave a bigger impact. And Marley & Me had me absolutely BAWLING at the end. I love that movie so much but I have watched it again ever since.

And I am so ashamed to admit that I have never read nor watched LOTR. Hope you don’t hate me 😛 *Runs away*

    1. The first time watching Marley and Me was also my last haha. I was far too emotional with that film. If it helps I’ve still not read the LOTR books – well, unless you count my dad reading them to me when I was a kid as reading? The film franchise though is definitely worth a shot. The journey is so amazing and the scenery is stunning. More than anything it’s just an epic fantasy. Don’t let the length of the films intimidate you haha.

  4. Aw, thank you so much for the nomination!

My empathy levels are insane so it doesn’t take much to get me crying, but I’m definitely more likely to cry over the death of an animal than a human. I’m definitely that person who’s like “No, not the dog! Kill the person instead!” haha. Marley & Me, broke me. The worst thing was they played it on a bus trip I was on and crying in public is not fun 😂

I definitely relate to #4 too, even though I am an actual old adult I still really don’t know what I want to do with my life. I think the pressure that gets put on younger people to “know” what they want to do is really unfair. It’s 100% okay to not know what you want to do.

    1. What kind of person thinks it’s a good idea to play Marley and Me on a bus trip. Did they not see the emotional turmoil it would cause? At least people will understand why you got so emotional. I mean who wouldn’t?

The pressure is unbelievable and it really does weigh down on you. So many people keep telling me that I should do this or that and I just want to scream at them to leave me alone. So many people forget the fact that it takes time to adjust to life after our academic career and we are literally the little fish sinking in the ocean. I am taking my life one day at a time. Slow and steady wins the race.

      1. Haha, I know! It was so incredibly traumatising.

It’s so good to hear you’re taking it one day at a time. I know it must get so hard sometimes when you’re surrounded by people telling you that you need to know what you’re doing. It’s so much better to just take your time though because that way you can figure out what you really want to do instead of rushing into something and spending years hating it.

  5. Haha, I haven’t watched Lord of the Rings yet… I’m going to get around to it soon though, I promise! 🙂

I’ve been wanting to watch The Walking Dead! It’s on my list of TV series to binge. My current TV series obsession is The 100. It’s sooooooo good. I’d highly recommend it if you haven’t watched it yet! 😀

I also don’t have a definite favorite season – I love all of them for different reasons! If I had to choose though, I’d say either spring or autumn because it’s not too cold or hot during both of these.

Thank you so much for the nomination, Lois! ❤

    1. I will hold on to that promise haha. It’s such an epic series. Don’t let the film lengths intimidate you because once you get past the initial introduction the adventure takes off.

I’ve heard so many amazing things about The 100 and it sounds like a series I’d enjoy and possibly end up stressing about haha. It’s on my to watch list.

I think I say autumn because of the scenery. That transitional stage is just so beautiful and it really emphasizes the beauty of nature in it’s “imperfection.” Plus it means I can bring out my cosy jumpers and boots which makes it even cozier. 😛

      1. Haha, that sounds great – I’ll try to watch it sometime this year! 🙂

Oh yeah, The 100 can be super stressful. I would say it’s sort of a mixture of Game of Thrones and Lost. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have once you get around to watching it!

Ooooh, your reasoning for favorite season is so much more meaningful than mine, haha. I completely agree with how the transitional stage is marvelous, especially how it illustrates nature in its imperfection. I’ve never really thought about it like that before – now, that’s what I’ll instantly think of when the topic of autumn comes up! ❤

  6. OMG I am the *exact same* about Lord of the Rings films- they’re my “happy films” too- they never fail to put me in a good mood! and I speak/mouth the words along with it too- and squeal (literally squeal) when I know a good bit is coming! (like when Aragorn turns up alive in the second one at the keep or when the beacons are lit in the third and so many other bits beside!) I would actually love to watch the movies with you!! (although I know what you mean about annoying people- I can no longer watch them with people who don’t love them as much) I’m a massive crier in films in general (and since we’re talking lotr- I cry *every* time theodon says “no father should have to bury their child”- so sad!!) But yes animal deaths get to me too :/ and I know what you mean about floating- I’ve been out of uni nearly a year too- I’m on my third job since then and finding it all super weird- especially cos people still expect me to have my life mapped out and I’m just trying to go with the flow and not get bogged down with figuring my whole life out thanks-very-much (ahh as you can see the existential-crisis-clogs are turning) but yeah I agree with you about the pressure to know exactly what you’re doing all the time- it’s such a pain! :/ But in reality everyone’s in the same boat and no one really knows what they’re doing!

    1. We would definitely have a blast watching the films together. No matter how many times I watch the films I still get sucked into the world. Boromir’s death will never not make me emotional and Faramir’s expression when he realises that his dad wished that he was the one to dead instead of Boromir crushes me. Theoden. That scene is so emotional and it’s such a beautiful setting as well which makes the circumstances all the more tragic. Don’t even get me started about the music. That in itself is chilling and atmospheric.

My policy is to take things one day at a time. Even finding a job in this day and age is a task and half so how do they expect us to map out our entire career within a blink of an eye? The worst thing is when people assume I’m going to be a teacher just because I did a history degree. Every time someones says that I just look at them and say there are other options and I can basically apply the skills I’ve learnt throughout the degree to any job. At the moment I’ve basically decided to quit adulthood. 😛

      1. Yes we would! Gosh me too!! Boromir’s death always makes me feel like I’m being gutted. And Faramir being treated badly by his father breaks my heart. It really is beautiful. Ahh that music- that music is phenomenal (I also listen to the soundtracks all the time- I love it!)
That is definitely the way to do it! Yeah the job market is tough :/ Oh gosh I had that too cos I did a degree in English Lit and Classics. I must have said the same thing so many times! As did all of my friends! It’s weird cos it always comes from people who really do have limited options in their career choice :/ haha good decision! :p
