Top Ten Tuesday: Book I Feel Differently About After Time Has Passed

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and Bookish where we get a new topic for a top 10 list.

Time flies and as the years go by, we grow older and the things we once loved or liked don’t seem that phenomenal anymore. You start seeing the flaws in books or maybe you just simply outgrow them. Here are the 10 books I feel differently about after time has passed.

1. The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey: Alien’s are a hit or miss for me and when I first read the book I was impressed. However, once I finished it my enthusiasm waned and I didn’t care much for picking up the next book. It didn’t help that a love triangle was introduced. An enjoyable book but hardly sensational.

2. Twilight by Stephanie Meyer: I can see this being on a few lists. I read this series when I was 13 and even then I was bored with some parts of the series *coughs* New Moon *coughs.* Over time I have definitely seen how problematic this series is, especially with regards to Bella and Edward. On top of that I think the whole sparkling vampire thing is one of the main reasons I no longer read vampire based stories. 

3. Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick: I simply outgrew this series. It was enjoyable when I first read it but since then I have read more Angel series that have a lot more depth, an even more intriguing plot and stronger character development. 

4. I am the Messenger by Markus Zusak: I love this book and still do. However, after I finished this book I had a nagging feeling about the ending. In general people have either loved or hated the ending and after finishing the book I found myself getting more and more irritated with it. I still love the book and the message of the story but the ending knocked off a star for me.

5. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins: The first time I read this book I was all about the romance. However, I found that I actually enjoyed Anna and Etienne a lot more as a couple in the companion novels than in this book. The whole push and pull thing between them was frustrating as hell and Etienne definitely needed to make a concrete decision regarding a third party earlier in the book.

6. Divergent by Veronica Roth: This was one of the first series I read when I was just getting back into reading and since I had nothing to really compare it to I was blown away by it. However, looking back I realised that I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought it did and Tris actually got on my nerves a lot of the time, especially in Insurgent. On top of all this I’ve grown very distant from the dystopian genre and I just feel like it’s lost it’s appeal.

7. Moonglass by Jessi Kirby: A really cute, summer read but definitely forgettable. I really enjoyed this book when I read it but afterwards I felt cold. I never really connected to the characters and over the years this book has basically slipped my mind. It’s kind of like a filler book to read when you get tired of the intensity of fantasy novels.

8. The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare: I like this series but I don’t love it. After finishing the first book in the series I was hooked but the further I got into the series, the appeal waned. I just felt like certain plot points were dragged out for far too long and some of the characters never really took hold for me.

9. A Little Something Different by Sandy Hall: Looking back I keep wondering why I ever picked up this book. At first I thought it was charming and different but it’s also absolutely ridiculous and some of the narrative perspectives were just too random. I loved the concept but sadly it just doesn’t deliver.

10. We Were Liars by E. Lockhart: I think the reason I gave this book such a high rating at first was because of the shock value. Once I’d gotten over that I didn’t really feel like this book was something special. It’s been a few years since I read the book and I can’t even remember the names of the characters.
