Top Ten Tuesday: Six Reasons to Read Six of Crows

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and Bookish and hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl where we get a new topic for a top 10 list.

The original title for today’s topic is ‘Book Titles with Numbers In Them.’ However, I’ve not read a vast amount of books with numbers in the title, and the only memorable one that came to mind was Six of Crows. This book is one of my favourite fantasy novels, so I thought I’d put a spin to this week’s numerical theme and spotlight six reasons to read Six of Crows.

1. Fast-paced action: This is a book that is easy to get into. The opening chapter immediately grabs your attention and throws you right in the middle of mystery and danger. From the very first moment until the last, the pacing of this book is consistent in its fast-paced action. There is never a dull moment and the uncertainty of what’s to come will have you at the very edge of your seats.  Continue reading

Top Ten Tuesday: Autumn TBR List

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and Bookish and hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl where we get a new topic for a top 10 list.

I can confirm that 2019 has quite possibly been the worst reading year yet. In 9 months I’ve succeeded in reading a staggering 5 books in total. This might be my new normal now since I’ve long accepted the fact that I can’t do massive reading spree’s like I use to, but I am determined to at least read a couple more books before the year is out. So, here is my short but hopeful to-read pile for autumn.

Top Ten Tuesday: Favourite/Least Favourite Book Tropes

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and Bookish and hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl where we get a new topic for a top 10 list.

We all have our guilty pleasures and in bookish terms, those come from unapologetically embracing even the most cliche of tropes. A trope basically equates to an occurring theme/plot device, and while some tropes get my heart pumping, others are rage-inducing. Here are some of my favourite and least favourite tropes.

Favourite Tropes

Friends to lovers: Let’s kick things off with a bit of romance. There are many reasons why I love this trope, but what I love is how the romantic relationship is built on the friendship that they had already established. It adds a layer of depth and history to the relationship and the development of the relationship from friends to more just seems like a natural progression.  Continue reading

Top Ten Tuesday: Fantasy Characters You Want as Allies

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and Bookish and hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl where we get a new topic for a top 10 list.

This week’s topic is all about the characters you’d love to be friends with. There are a ton of characters I would love to actually have in my life, but I thought I’d twist this topic into the fantasy characters you’d want as allies. Fantasy worlds are brutal, and the best way to survive these worlds is to have a solid group to back you up. So, here are the characters I would recruit to be part of my crew.

Top Ten Tuesday: Character Team-Ups

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and Bookish and hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl where we get a new topic for a top 10 list.

This week we’ve been given a freebie topic, so I thought it would be fun to create a mash-up of characters that I think would make a great team. Some of these teams would be incredibly formidable, others have been matched cause I think they’d form a solid friendship, while others would be pure chaos.

1. Kestrel and Sarene, The Winner’s Trilogy / Elantris: Two incredibly resourceful women, both with sharp minds and a keen eye for politics. This is one hell of a formidable duo. Their combined skill set is insane and I would not want to come between them. The beauty of this team-up would be the intellectual strategising you’d get. Both ladies play the game in their own way and could definitely overthrow a corrupt empire.

Top Ten Tuesday: Auto-Buy Authors

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and Bookish and hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl where we get a new topic for a top 10 list.

We all have our favourite authors, those whose books are so captivating and memorable that any time news of their next book airs has you automatically adding it to your basket. These are my auto-buy authors.

1. V. E. Schwab: Schwab is a powerhouse in fantasy writing. Her Shades of Magic series is one of my all-time favourite fantasy franchises and what makes her an auto-buy author is that I can always count on her to create an immersive fantasy world without sacrificing the pacing of the book or the character arcs.

Top Ten Tuesday: Character Spotlight

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and Bookish and hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl where we get a new topic for a top 10 list.

This week is all about characters. Now, there are a lot of angles to take with this freebie, but I thought I’d take the time to spotlight some of the characters that had a lasting impact on my reading experience. These guys have a variety of qualities that make them a standout character in the books.
