Top Ten Tuesday: Cover Love

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and Bookish where we get a new topic for a top 10 list.

This week is all about the visual. Now, I was stumped by this topic. To start, I’ve read a total of 3 graphic novels in my lifetime. I could have done a TV spotlight, but I did that in last weeks TTT. So the only topic I could think of relevant to this week was on book covers. Admit it, you’ve judge a book by its cover and these are 10 books that gave me a serious case of cover love and are now happily sitting on my bookshelf looking all pretty.

1. The Mistborn Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson: I’ve spent a good chunk of time admiring my Mistborn trilogy set. The designs are simple but effective. The grey and white colour scheme looks pretty haunting and incredibly atmospheric.

2. The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi: I like the pretty colours. Simple as that. The cover looks magical and thankfully the book itself echoes this sentiment.

3. Air Awakens by Elise Kova: Elise Kove gets the award for best book covers. The artworks for her books is absolutely phenomenal. I confess, the main reason I bought these book was because I wanted to gawk at the covers.

4. These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner: I’m not usually a fan of book models on book covers, but what makes These Broken Stars an exception is the fact that these guys blend in with the atmosphere. I also liked that the dress featured on the cover is also in the book.

5. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak: This is my favourite edition of The Book Thief. The design is so effective. The cover plays with the idea of a dance with death. There’s something innocent and haunting about the image which makes it all the more impactful.

6. Walk the Edge (Thunder Road #2) by Katie McGarry: Whats not to love about this cover? I adore this book and the book cover looks peaceful but has an edge to it as well. Again this is a cover is significant to the story as the bridge plays a huge part in the book.

7. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern: Take me to The Night Circus. Everything about this book is whimsical, magical and dreamlike.

8. A Gathering of Shadows by V. E. Schwab: Talk about badass. I will happily admit that this is the only time I’ve gone out and bought both the UK and US editions of the book because I love the cover so much. There’s something so demanding about this book cover which is very reflective of Lila’s presence in this book.

9. The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater: I clearly have a thing for magical looking book covers. Blue Lily, Lily Blue was my favourite book in the series. There’s just something so evocative about the cover design.

10. The Burning Sky by Sherry Thomas: Any book that has a phoenix on the cover is a hit with me. The phoenix is my favourite mythical creature and while this book looks magical, it also has a sense of foreboding and danger to it.

Those are the books that gave me a case of cover love.

  1. I never read a comic book.So The only ones I read were the VA and Percy Jackson graphic novels. But we did something a little different. Allyson added some comics she read on her list.

    1. You can’t not judge a book by its cover. It’s in our nature to judge them haha. I’ve lost track of all the time I’ve spent gawking at the cover for These Broken Stars.

  2. Pretty books are certainly my ultimate weakness. Ooh, lately, I’ve been so tempted to buy The Star-Touched Queen so I’m glad you mentioned it. ⭐️💜 I’ve seen so many polarizing reviews however. Are you excited for book 2 though? That cover is so pretty as well. 😍

    1. The cover is absolutely stunning and overall I enjoyed the book but I did feel like the secondary characters weren’t as fleshed out as they could have been. I’m still excited to read the second book and I’m hoping we check in with the characters in the first one.
