Top Ten Tuesday: Favourite Books Read in 2016

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and Bookish where we get a new topic for a top 10 list.

Hello everybody. Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas. I can’t believe how fast the year has come and gone. This time of year is always chaotic for me. From family members making their annual visits, to both my brother’s birthdays (one on Christmas day itself) and finding some time to relax in between all the chaos, I all but forgot about this weeks TTTHere are my top 10 favourite books of the year, well the first ones that came to mind anyway.

Winter: The conclusion to the Lunar Chronicles was everything I wanted it to be and so much more. All the characters finally come together and utilize their ability to take down Queen Levana.

The Raven King: This book left me wanting more but what we did get was a whole lot of awesome. My love for Blue and the Raven Boys knows no bounds. The character arcs were phenomenal.

Wolf by Wolf: I absolutely adored this book. The motorcycle race kept the pace going but the theme’s of identity and Yael’s character in general carried the book for me, as did Luka. ❤

A Gathering of Shadows: How could I not feature this book? A Gathering of Shadows had me gasping by the end. The plot was nothing too spectacular but the character insights were wonderfully complex as were the character dynamics. Bring on A Conjuring of Light.

Walk the Edge: This book falls into my favourites section purely because of how addictive it is. I’m still getting used to the motorcycle group but I absolutely adored Razor and Breanna. They’re the most unlikely couple but as they open up to one another they see that maybe they’re not so different from one another as they both search for a place to belong.

The Deal: Another addictive read but this book is in the favourites because it introduced me to the world of sports contemporary romances. I love these types of books and I’d be very happy Garrett Graham came crashing into my life.

The Unexpected EverythingMy summer go-to. The Unexpected Everything was everything I expect from a Morgan Matson book. It was a fun, summer adventure full of heart, friendship, family and love.

The Hard Count: This is what a sorts contemporary should be like. Not only was there a stong focus on the sport, but it also looked at the wider social issues that come with a sporting community.

Something Real: This was one of the first books I read in 2016 and I still can’t get enough of it. Something Real looks at the manipulation and dark realities that come with being a reality TV star.

Crooked Kingdom: This book was everything!! I could not have asked for a better conclusion. The character arcs were phenomenal and the plot was intricately crafted full of twist and turns.

BONUS: More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera: This book packed all the punches and did an incredible job at exploring ones sexuality, identity and memory.

Those were my favourite books of 2016.

    • Crooked Kingdom will take you on one hell of a rollercoaster. Just when you think you have things figured out another curveball is thrown in. I couldn’t cope haha.

  1. I haven’t read any of these yet – although so many are on my TBR pile. I literally just started The Raven Boys but glad the last book of the series made it too your top ten. It means the rest of the series must be pretty promising 🙂

  2. I am actually reading Wolf by Wolf right now! I haven’t heard anything but good things about this one, so I am very hopeful.
Also, I absolutely love Rhy from Shades of Magic! He’s such a cinnamon bun. I can’t help myself but Fangirl every time he makes an appearance!

    • I hope you enjoy Wolf by Wolf and I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the book.
Rhy is precious, as is Kell, Lila and Alucard. basically I just want to shove them all in my protective little bubble.
