Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and Bookish where we get a new topic for a top 10 list.
Happy Tuesdays to you all. 😛 I absolutely love the idea of this weeks topic. So many books have inspired me to want to try something new. Most of the time I finish a book with an urge to visit the locations they’re set in but some have also had me wanting to explore a new skill and start and adventure.
1. Learn how to Surf. (Emmy & Oliver)
I’ve always had a lot of admiration and respect to people that can surf. It looks like such a fun sport and if I wasn’t one of the clumsiest people in the world I’d definitely like to give it a shot.
2. Go on an epic road trip (Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour)
I am happy to report that I will soon be able to cross this off my bucket list. I’ve always loved the idea of just getting in a car and just seeing where the road takes you. With great company, a good music mix and plenty of picture perfect moments, a road trip sounds like one hell of an epic adventure.
3. Visit the Circus.(The Night Circus)
I have never been to a circus, mainly because I live in area where there are none. After reading The Night Circus I had this strong urge to visit one and just experience all the wonders that come with it. I feel like it’s such a magical atmosphere and very unique.
4. Ride a Horse (The Scorpio Races)
Puck and Sean’s love for horses made me want to saddle up and learn how to ride. I loved the connection between our characters and their horses. Horses are such strong, elegant creatures as well and I’ve always wondered what it’d be like to have the wind run through my hair as I rode on.
5. Read Fanfiction (Fangirl)
It’s been years since I’ve read a good fanfiction story. After reading Fangirl, I had the strongest urge to find an old favourite fanfic and just revisit that story. I definitely made me appreciate the power of fanfiction and the time and effort it takes for the writer’s to come up with these ideas and capture the essence of the characters whilst creating their own adventure.
6. Challenge Myself (I am the Messenger)
I am the Messenger has Ed face some pretty tough challenges and in the end the results proved to be highly effective. At the beginning of the book, Ed has fallen into a static routine and didn’t push himself to reach his full potential. This book hit home for me because I don’t want to be someone that is always wondering what if. I’d rather take a chance and fail then cower away in fear and this book drives home that belief.
7. Be creative (I’ll Give you the Sun)
My artistic skills are very limited but I’ve always had an appreciation for art. I loved seeing how both Noah and Jude each have their own artistic style and see the world from a different perspective. The role art plays in their lives is huge and to see them create something out of nothing was inspiring.
8. Be Spontaneous (Since You’ve Been Gone)
I saw a lot of myself in Emily when I read this book. I’ve always been used to being in the background and having my other friends take charge. What I loved about Emily’s task list was that it forced her to come out of her shell and build up these new friendship and memories on her own. Taking a dive into the unknown and just taking a chance definitely pays off.
9. Ride a motorcycle. (Wolf by Wolf)
I’d probably be a danger hazard to myself and everyone around me if I attempted to do this so if I could ride a motorcycle with Felix or Luka driving I’d feel a lot safer. I’d also love to go on a cross-continental journey (although not one as violent) so I could experience more of the wonders of the world.
10. Strike up an adventure with a total stranger (Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares)
The dares in Dash and Lily paved the way for a fun, thrilling adventure which felt a lot like being someone’s pen-pal. The thought of striking up a conversation with someone via letters and little challenges sounds fun and romantic, especially if it happened over the Christmas period.
Those are the things books have made me want to do.
Has a book inspired you to do something?
I had that same feeling while reading Wolf by Wolf. I would never let myself actually ride a motorcycle (it’s way to0 scary) but it sounds so badass and cool.

If the motorcycle came with Felix and Luka I’d be a lot happier. I’ll need a package deal, the bike and the guy to wrap my arm around haha. 😛

Oh that would be wonderful. Luka *sigh*

I’m in for all but #4! I have no desire to hop on a horse. Those things scare me. But maybe only because I’ve done it before and didn’t like it. Great choices!

If you’ve already had the experience and didn’t enjoy it then I think it’s a good reason to give it a pass. Horses are such majestic creatures but I can definitely see why some people would rather watch and admire than ride them. 😀

No. I keep meaning to read it but it always slips my mind. I will definitely have read it before Blood for Blood comes out. Thank you for the reminder. 😀

I’ll Give You the Sun made my list this week too! I wanted to create so much art after reading that novel, but my artistic skills aren’t that great either! I do think art is an amazing form of self-expression, at any skill level. I really need to reread that book soon!

I definitely agree with what you said about art. It’s such a great way to express yourself and escape the chaos for a while. I think that’s why colouring books have become so popular again because it gives people something to concentrate on and calm the mind at the same time. 😀

I know right? I mean they probably have a long list of rules for what you can and can’t do but it would be so much fun to just go back and observe!

Striking up an adventure with a stranger and going on an epic road trip sound like so much fun! Whenever this happens in a book I always imagine how cool it would be if I did it in real life. Great list!

I sounds like such a great story to tell. Meeting a stranger, striking up a conversation and seeing where the road take us just sounds so wonderful. I’d love for this to happen in real life. 😀

I had wanting to visit a circus on my list too! I love riding, I think my obsession with horses is partly from books and partly from my dad!

That’s amazing that you ride. Books have definitely made me consider trying things I never would have before. If the Night Circus ever turned up in my little village I would freak out haha.

Thanks! Yeah same here (although my horse obsession is not entirely due to books, it’s partly my dad as well)!

I LOVE the answers of “be more creative/spontaneous” – these are definitely aspects that I really would like to improve about myself, and I love that books have sparked this change in you. Surfing would be pretty rad, but admittedly, going on a road-trip is probably my biggest desire right now. THEY JUST SEEM SO SPONTANEOUS AND FUN.

I’m still working on that aspect. It’s hard to break habit sometimes but when I do it’s so worth it and it only makes me stronger in the long run. Knowing me I’d end up breaking my leg attempting to surf haha.
I am so excited for this road trip I’m taking in September and hopefully it’ll be a fun ride. 😀
