Pokemon Go Book Tag

pokemon-go-book-tag

Pokemon + books = a winning combination. Pokemon has and always will be a favourite of mine so it’s nice to see it back in the headlines haha. A big thank you to Jesse @ Books at Dawn for this tag, I confess, I had already partially written up this post before the tag cause it’s so much fun.

Also a big thank you to Aentee @ Read at Midnight for creating this tag and the edits that go along with it. Your Pokemon Go sacrifice to create this post is noted and appreciated.

pokemon-tag-01starters

The Hunger Games trilogy. As you know by now I was not a big reader when I was in school. I hated being told what to read and knowing that I had to analyse and write and essay about it was even more off putting. So when I stumbled upon the Hunger Games I was surprised at how much I loved just being able to read for my own enjoyment and the rest is pretty much history.

pokemon-tag02pikachu

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. This was one of a very few books that I genuinely enjoyed reading in school. Atticus Finch was my favourite character and it is this reason that I have yet to pick up the sequel.

pokemon-tag-03-zubat

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. Sorry guys, I will not be picking up this series anytime soon. I’ve been keeping an eye on this series for a while but the fandom drama and the character makeovers don’t bode well to me. The concept of the series sounds great but I think that a lot of other factors have overshadowed it.

pokemon-tag-04-ditto

I think most contemporaries follow a similar pattern. I’d say Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry is one that’s easy example of this. We have two protagonist that have their own issues but are drawn to each other nonetheless, a romance blooms, then something drives them apart, some self discovery is added to the mix which leads to the happy reunion.

pokemon-tag-05-snorlax

There are a lot of series that have intimidated me due to its size but the most daunting remains to be A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin. I have tried to start the series but I can never seem to make it past the halfway mark of the first book. I either get border or forget details and the constant POV switch just doesn’t work as well as I’d hope.

Side Note: I still have my Snorlax mini teddy that my parents got me when I was child somewhere in the house. I should try and find it.

pokemon-tag06-gengar

Most recently this was The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh. Not because it was scary but because I was so emotionally invested in Khalid and Shazi’s journey and I just couldn’t put the book down, even if was exhausted the next day.

pokemon-tag07-nidokingqueen

Just one!? How can I only pick one? I can’t and won’t so I’m going to give you a list of my current favourites.

Kaz Brekker/Inej Ghafa – Six of Crows
Finnikin/Isaboe – Lumatere Chronicles
Skylar/Josh – I’ll Meet You There
Blue/Gansey and Pynch – The Raven Cycle
Tarver Merendsen/Lilac Laroux – Starbound Trilogy

pokemon-tag08-rapidash

I feel like Ponyta/Rapidash are an underrated Pokemon but I love them. They so fierce and elegant.

The first book to come to mind with this question is Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. We are thrown into the deep end from the get-go. It’s a non-stop action packed adventure with some great character insights.

pokemon-tag09-eevee

MY FAVOURITE POKEMON!!! I love Eevee and all of it’s evolution forms. They’re so elegant.

Technically there’s not been many spin-off for this series but anything to do with the Lunar Chronicles makes me happy. We’ve been treated to Stars Above: A short story collection and we have the two graphic novels set to be released. I can’t wait.

pokemon-tag14-magikarp

Storm Siren by Mary Weber. This is a very underrated series in my opinion but it’s definitely worth the read. It has a great female protagonist, a swoon-worthy romance and a magical world. I’d highly recommend it.

I always laugh at the fact that Magikarp turns into the epic Gyarados!

pokemon-tag12-legendary

I have to say out of the three legendary Pokemon here Articuno will always be my number 1.

The Winner’s Trilogy by Marie Rutkoski. To start, I absolutely love the book covers but more than that I want to experience the journey Kestrel and Arin go on. So sign me up for this roller-coaster of a ride.

pokemon-tag15mew-mewtwo

There are so many editions I wish I could get my hands on but the main one has to be the Penguin Cloth-Bound Classics. Just look at these beauties.

pokemon-tag10-egg

A lot of this years debut books have already been released and the one I am most excited to read at the moment is The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner.

pokemon-tag11-lure-module

So many authors on this list. My main auto-buy authors are V. E. Schwab, Pierce Brown, Heather Demetrios and Melina Marchetta.

pokemon-tag13-server-down

A Conjuring of Light by V. E. Schwab. Okay, so we only have to wait a year but it’s been a looooong year and I have questions that need answering, especially after leaving us on such a cruel cliffhanger.

Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo is another book I feel like I’ve been waiting on forever to be released. I need to know how my crew are coping and how they’re going to tackle the big issue that presented itself at the end of Six of Crows.

  1. Looks like a great tag!
I’m with you on your Snorlax answer. I think I’m sticking to the TV show rather than catching up by reading the books as I’m about 30,000 pages behind everyone! :s 🙂

  2. Thanks for the tag! Aentee has outdone herself with it, I LOVE IT.

RE: Throne of Glass – I wouldn’t personally recommend it (haha) but what do you mean by character makeovers? Do you mean personality makeovers?

AND OMG, A CONJURING OF LIGHT. I’m also highly anticipating it – that cliffhanger was just killer but I have faith in our girl and know that she will save the day. I suppose the question is, what will she lose to save the day??? Oh god I just can’t wait. ❤

    1. She has definitely outdone herself and I love how Pokemon is back in the headlines again haha.

I do mean the personality makeovers in Throne of Glass. Quite a few people have remarked on the 360 turn some characters go through for the sake of a relationship and I don’t think I could put myself through that.

No. Do not ask that question. She will live as will Kell and Rhy and Alucard!! No harm can come to them if they’re in my protective bubble. This is one book I genuinely can’t predict. I have no idea what to expect at all but I am excited and terrified to find out. 😀

  3. The awkward moment where there’s so much Pokemon love going on all over the world, and I’m so out of the loop seeing as I was not really exposed to Pokemon. I think I watched like one of the movies but that’s it. Yeah, I know, what type of ’90s kid am I? 😔

And when I was in high school, I had friends that had to read TKAM once and even some twice, but for some reason all my English teachers never assigned it to my class. So, sadly, I haven’t read that classic yet! But I did purchase a copy last year so hopefully I can pick it up someday. ☺️

    1. It is never to late to jump on the Pokemon bandwagon, the show and the games (although I’ve yet to get Pokemon Go). If anything I’d watch it for the pretty Pokemon cause so many of them look so elegant and fierce. I’d love to have one haha.

I think I’d have to have a word with your English teachers. TKAM was a classic but I faced the same thing in school cause all of our reading came down to the teacher’s preference so sometimes I was stuck with the dullest book you could find haha.

      1. Hehe, maybe I will. Omg, I agree, some of them are so adorable!
The funny things is after I left high school the teachers that I had ended up incorporating TKAM in their curriculum for the future students. 😅 But I guess it worked out since I tend to like to read at my own (as you know, pretty weird and sporadic) pace anyway. ☺️

  4. I feel you about SJM’s books. They are EVERYWHERE and in a bit of an irritating way. That’s my answer for that prompt too! 😀
I so agree about the Storm Siren series. It’s so underrated and certainly deserves a lot more love than it has gotten.
I have a feeling you’re going to like The Winner’s Curse trilogy! I’m crossing my fingers that you. Arin & Kestrel’s romance is sooo good in a very achy way. 🙂

    1. Glad to know I’m not the only one that feels that way. I just can’t be doing with the character assassinations I’m told to expect from both her series.
I can definitely see myself falling in love with Arin & Kestrel’s relationship. I already love the fact that Kestrel’s strength lies with her mind more than her physical strength. I just have to prepare myself for all the feels haha.

  5. Thanks for tagging me! This looks like fun 🙂 enjoyed reading your answers for it!
I’m a bit out of the loop with this Pokemon Go hype! I have not yet downloaded the app because it seems like a flappy bird thing, I don’t want it to ruin my life XD I really want read the Song of Ice and Fire books! They look so intimidating but I’m sure its worth it 🙂
I never read To Kill A Mockingbird at school (wished I did!) so I read it in my own time and really enjoyed it 🙂

    1. haha my childhood was dominated by Pokemon but I’ve not downloaded Pokemon Go yer either. I’m trying to resist the temptation as long as I can haha.
I am intrigued by The Song of Ice and Fire series mainly because I want to see how it differs from the show but I think I might just wait for the entire series to be released…whenever that may be haha.
