Top Ten Tuesday: 2016 Resolutions

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and Bookish where we get a new topic for a top 10 list.

In general I don’t make any resolutions because I always forget them. However, I figured I’d make a list of the books I plan on reading this year. Now I must warn you the chances of me sticking to this list are quite slim because my reading mood is constantly changing. These are the books that I’ve been wanting to read for a while and will hopefully read in 2016.

1. The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken: Passenger is probably one of the most anticipated books of the year. However, I’ve heard nothing but great things about this series and while the synopsis of the book doesn’t exactly grip me, I do want to give the series a chance to amaze me.

2. The Young Elites by Marie Lu: Another author who’s work is constantly praised. I’ve not really been in the mood for dystopia but that The Young Elites/the Legend Series might just be what I need to get back into the genre.

3. Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers: This companion series seem to be one that continues to fly under the radar. I like the concept of assassins and the fact that they are nuns as well has me intrigued.  

4. All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr: Historic fiction is another genre I plan on exploring more this year and this book sounds like a very moving read. On top of that Jenna @ Reading With Jenna has been singing this books praises and so I figure it’s high time for me to find out why.

5. The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski: An obvious choice. With the series coming to an end this year, I am excited to finally binge read this series. 

6. The Lux Series by Jennifer L. Armentrout: I have yet to read a Jennifer L. Armentrout book. I know, shame on me. So this year I am going to make it my mission to read at least one of her books.

7. The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo: You all know how much I love Six of Crows. However, I’ve been on the fence about this series for a while because of the mixed reviews. In spite of that I think this series will be a good one to read while I wait for Crooked Kingdom, plus I can know more of the Grisha world by reading this series.

8. The Lumatere Chronicles by Melina Marchetta: Finnikin of the Rock was one of my favourite reads of 2015. Now, you may wonder why I’ve not read the rest of the series. That is because of my mood reading tendencies and like I did with the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy, I was just not in the mood to continue. Not because I wasn’t excited but because the series can be a bit intense and dark and at the time I wanted a break from that.

9. The Chaos Walking Trilogy by Patrick Ness: Again, I am ashamed to admit I’ve yet to read a Patrick Ness novel and another mission of mine this year is to finally get my hands on one (or more) of his books.

10. Something Real by Heather Demetrios: Is it cheating to put this on the list if I plan on reading this book next? I’ll Meet You There is in my top 5 all time favourite contemporary novel. So naturally I have to see if this book can also amaze me.
Side Note: I am so tempted to buy the paperback version of I’ll Meet You There purely because of the bonus letter we get from Josh to Skylar.
