Top Ten Tuesday: 2016 Resolutions

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and Bookish where we get a new topic for a top 10 list.

In general I don’t make any resolutions because I always forget them. However, I figured I’d make a list of the books I plan on reading this year. Now I must warn you the chances of me sticking to this list are quite slim because my reading mood is constantly changing. These are the books that I’ve been wanting to read for a while and will hopefully read in 2016.

1. The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken: Passenger is probably one of the most anticipated books of the year. However, I’ve heard nothing but great things about this series and while the synopsis of the book doesn’t exactly grip me, I do want to give the series a chance to amaze me.

2. The Young Elites by Marie Lu: Another author who’s work is constantly praised. I’ve not really been in the mood for dystopia but that The Young Elites/the Legend Series might just be what I need to get back into the genre.

3. Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers: This companion series seem to be one that continues to fly under the radar. I like the concept of assassins and the fact that they are nuns as well has me intrigued.

4. All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr: Historic fiction is another genre I plan on exploring more this year and this book sounds like a very moving read. On top of that Jenna @ Reading With Jenna has been singing this books praises and so I figure it’s high time for me to find out why.

5. The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski: An obvious choice. With the series coming to an end this year, I am excited to finally binge read this series.

6. The Lux Series by Jennifer L. Armentrout: I have yet to read a Jennifer L. Armentrout book. I know, shame on me. So this year I am going to make it my mission to read at least one of her books.

7. The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo: You all know how much I love Six of Crows. However, I’ve been on the fence about this series for a while because of the mixed reviews. In spite of that I think this series will be a good one to read while I wait for Crooked Kingdom, plus I can know more of the Grisha world by reading this series.

8. The Lumatere Chronicles by Melina Marchetta: Finnikin of the Rock was one of my favourite reads of 2015. Now, you may wonder why I’ve not read the rest of the series. That is because of my mood reading tendencies and like I did with the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy, I was just not in the mood to continue. Not because I wasn’t excited but because the series can be a bit intense and dark and at the time I wanted a break from that.

9. The Chaos Walking Trilogy by Patrick Ness: Again, I am ashamed to admit I’ve yet to read a Patrick Ness novel and another mission of mine this year is to finally get my hands on one (or more) of his books.

10. Something Real by Heather Demetrios: Is it cheating to put this on the list if I plan on reading this book next? I’ll Meet You There is in my top 5 all time favourite contemporary novel. So naturally I have to see if this book can also amaze me.
Side Note: I am so tempted to buy the paperback version of I’ll Meet You There purely because of the bonus letter we get from Josh to Skylar.

Those are my bookish resolutions for 2016? I make no guarantee as to whether I stick to them. What’s your resolution?

  1. My bookish resolution for 2016 is to read more classics. I seem to read the contemporary ones I know I’ll enjoy, rather than reading the classics which I seem to not read as much. Good list btw, I see a lot of people raving about The Chaos Walking Trilogy so I might have to add that to my list of books to read. 🙂

    1. I haven’t read a classic since leaving school. I re-read Jane Eyre and I really loved that book so I definitely feel like I need to go back and pick up some classics. So many people have been telling me to pick up a Patrick Ness book so I figured this is the year I finally get round to that. Although with all the series I have on the list I might read A Monster Calls first. 😀

  2. I’m not so great at resolutions either. 🙂 I enjoyed the assassin book but haven’t read the next two… neat concept though. And the rest on your list, heard pretty good things about most of them. Looks like good reading!

    1. I feel like our resolution should be to not make resolutions haha. I’m really fascinated by the concept of assassins and this concept of having them be nuns as well is something I’ve not seen done before. Hopefully I’ll be able to tick off at least half the books off the list but I make no promises haha.

  3. I am loving this list (for obvious reasons)! I always interested in what other people think of All the Light We Cannot See, so I’ll be waiting patiently in a corner while you pick it up and read it. I also love the Chaos Walking trilogy so I’m excited to see it on your list! The books all end on cliffhangers though so make sure to have the next book ready 🙂 I just finished reading The Winner’s Curse and it’s so good! It’s kind of slow-paced with not that much action but the romance is top notch!

    1. I can guarantee you will be the first to know about all my reactions to All the Light We Cannot See. I’m already stocking up on tissues and chocolate. 😉 A cliffhanger in every book? I don’t think I’ll be able to cope haha. I’m a sucker for a good romance so I am ready to get my hands on The Winner’s trilogy, cliffhangers and all haha.

  4. Darkest Minds: YESSSSSS. This was one of the first YA books I bought EVER and I adore the series so much. I personally found the last book to be disappointing, but maybe that was just me.

Winners Curse: ooh yes you should totally wait till you have all three and do a binge read! these books are soooo glorious 😀

Chaos Walking: HELLO MY FAVOURITE SERIES OF ALL TIME AFTER HP AND PERCY JACKSON. there are so many feels. *melts*

    1. I’ve heard some mixed reviews about the third book so I’ll be sure not to go in with ridiculously high expectations.

With everyone talking about the cliffhangers in the Winner’s trilogy I figured it would be easier to have one long binge reading session.

I’m so excited to read the Chaos Walking trilogy, although the cliffhangers have me nervous. This series sounds so unique in its concept so I definitely have some high expectations. 😀

    1. I’ve literally just done the same. I was so ready to pick up the book today but then I decided to go with Wrath and the Dawn. I will read it within the month though haha. 😀

    1. haha that is exactly the reason I’ve waited so long to read the series. I’ve been wanting to get my hands on the series for so long now but for the sake of my emotional state I think it would be best for me to wait until The Winner’s Kiss is officially released. 😀

    1. From what I can gather it’s between the writing and the characterization of some of the characters that throw people off. I am interested in learning more about the Grishaverse so I’ll definitely check them out.:D

    1. Chaos Walking seems to be the number one pick. I’ve waited long enough so I need to finally read a Patrick Ness novel.

Josh and Skylar are one of my top OTP’s. Any additional material is worth the extra pennies haha.
